RESULTS OF ELTE FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES’ SOCIAL TEXT ANALYSIS COMPETITION

The first prize (HUF 100 000 and a book prize offered by L’Harmattan Publishing House) went to ELTE Faculty of Social Sciences’ PhD student, Enikő Anna Virágh. Her paper, titled Media Judgement in the Case of László Kiss, according to the jury’s evaluation, is a thoroughly elaborated work of classical qualitative analysis in a relevant theoretical context.

The second prize (HUF 60 000 and a book prize offered by L’Harmattan Publishing House) was awarded to ELTE Faculty of Social Sciences student Petra Gelencsér and alumna Dóra Kerényi. Their work, titled Government Communication Related to COVID-19, is a prompt sociological response to an important and current event—applying both qualitative and quantitative approaches to reach plausible results.

The prize for the best English-language paper (a book prize offered by L’Harmattan Publishing House) was received by Julián Romero for his work: Fear and Demonization in Politics the Case of the Colombian Presidential Elections in 1930. His paper analyses textual and visual (image) press data to illustrate Jacques Lacan’s and his followers’ psychoanalytic theories.

A special prize offered by SentiOne was awarded to Petra Gelencsér and Dóra Kerényi, who will have free access to SentiOne’s online listening platform for one year.
