Graduates and students of ELTE won one gold, two silver and one bronze medal for Hungary at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. The points-scoring women's water polo, women's saber and handball teams were also strengthened by ELTE students, among others Simon Petra, a newly admitted law student of our university.

At the Paris Olympics, 180 Hungarian athletes competed in 21 sports, Eötvös Loránd University was represented by 11 current and former students. Immediately, the first Hungarian medal was won by Eszter Muhari, a student of the Faculty of State and Law, who defeated the Estonian Nelli Diefer in dueling on July 27 and stood on the third step of the podium.

The men's fencing team, including Áron Szilágyi, an alumnus of the Faculty of Social Sciences, fought South Korea in the final on July 31, where the East Asian team won in a tough battle, but our athletes got the silver medal.

On August 2, the men's duelists defeated the defending champion Japan in a fierce fight, thus after a 52-year break, Hungary again won team gold in men's duelist. A member of the team was Gergely Siklósi, an alumnus of the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology, ELTE's 2020 Face of Sport, to whom we can also thank the last, decisive touch.

Two days later, Bence Halász, a student of the ELTE PPK in Szombathely, won an Olympic silver medal on his birthday with a great performance. With a throw of nearly 80 meters, he took 2nd place in the hammer throw.

Our women's water polo team finished in 5th place - scorer - and the team included Dóra Leimeter, a PPK student (ELTE's 2021 Face of Sport), and Kamilla Faragó, a student, aspiring to become a teacher.

Our women's sword team took the 6th place in scoring. Anna Márton, a graduate of ELTE PPK was a member of the team.

Boglárka Telegdy-Kapás (ELTE's First Face of Sport) competed in her last Olympics, finishing 14th in the 200-meter butterfly.

In athletics, our former student Réka Némethné Gyurátz from Szombathely took the 30th place in the hammer throw. in walking, Bence Venyercsán, student of ÁJK, and Rita Récsei, alumna of BGGyK Iand PPK, took 21st place, while Récsei took 33th place in the individual 20 km race,  Venyercsán became the 46th.

During the Olympics, it was revealed that Simon Petra - who finished in 6th place and was therefore a member of the scoring handball team - was admitted to the legal department at ELTE ÁJK, so we can now welcome her as a citizen of the University.

Congratulations to all Hungarian Olympians who participated in the Olympics, especially to our ELTE graduates and students!
