Larry (film by Szilárd Bernáth, 2022)
The ELTE–NFI University Film Club continues the series of screenings and discussions. We welcome university citizens from all faculties of ELTE to the University Library and Archives.
Szilárd Bernáth's powerful directorial debut is a socially sensitive film that appeals to young people, with a shockingly authentic performance by Benett Vilmányi and Szabolcs Thuróczy.
21-year-old Ádám is a loner, a boy from Borsod, working as a shepherd, who is ashamed of his stutter. He lives in a tense, yet intimate coldness with his once violent, now tamed father, who has found refuge in religion. Adam is unable to find his place until he realises that he can express himself without stuttering through rap music, under the stage name Larry, and face his frustrations of helplessness. His rage-fuelled lyrics get the attention of local youths, and he gains an unexpected level of popularity online. A national talent show could be her breakthrough, but when she comes face to face with people, her speech falters again. He cannot perform live until he overcomes his inner limitations and takes control of his own life.
