The Ethnic and Migration Research Group's (Etnikai és Migrációs Kutatócsoport) English language film club launches with Nate Parker's 2016 film.
The research group at the Department of American Studies at ELTE, focuses on American ethnic and migration issues, and their monthly film club focuses on films related to the topic.
On the first occasion, Nate Parker's The Birth of a Nation will be screened. The film tells the story of the 1831 slave rebellion sparked by a preacher, played by Nat Turner, who refuses to stand idly by and watch his fellow man suffer. His rebellion is ruthlessly crushed.
The film is introduced by Dániel Cseh, a lecturer at the Department of American Studies, who will talk about both the institution of slavery and the slave rebellion led by Nat Turner. An informal discussion will follow the screening.
The movie will be screened today at Faculty of Humanities Building R (1088 Budapest, Rákóczi út 5., 3/315a) from 17:00 until 20:00.
